Who We Are And What We Do

Diabcare Diabetic Educational Society

The aim behind Diabcare Diabetic Educational Society viz, DDES established by DiabCare India is in response to the urgent need to address the critical issue of the diabetic and related problems in the society due to the modern lifestyles. An independent, non-denominational and non-profit organization, DDES is dedicated to providing absolutely free diagnosis of diabetes, related problems and subsequent lab test facility for economically weaker sections of our society. We intend to undertake such cases for the health care of society having BPL card holders.

Why DDES?

The earliest national study reported the prevalence of Diabetes as 2.1% in urban areas and 1.5% in rural areas. In the last two decades, there has been a marked increase in the prevalence, particularly in southern India. According to WHO criteria, it was 5.6% and 2.7% among urban and rural areas respectively. The prevalence of diabetes in the urban metros of India is approaching the figures reported in affluent migrant Indians. There is a shift in age of onset to younger age groups.

According to recent estimates, the prevalence of diabetes in the India is predicted to be 8.9 percent of the population by 2025. Death rates are twice as high among middle-aged persons (between the ages of 45-60) than among those who are not diabetics. Mortality from diabetes is related primarily to heart diseases.

Due to diabetes, the children may live shorter lives. The world over, it is expected that 200 children under the age of 14 will develop the disease every day. Some 1.6 million cases are diagnosed every year in India. It is affecting the children as young as six.

In USA like other countries, the government itself takes responsibility to prevent all these lifestyles problems by making public awareness through continuous medical camp, educational programs etc. But in India like developing country has so many limitations for doing such programs in all over the states. Our's is a humble effort in providing quality diabetic health care to all mainly to the economically weaker sections.
